Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Maurice Verbaet Collection (MVC).
Founded by the eminent collector and passionate patron Maurice Verbaet, the MVC is a leading private reference center dedicated to post-war Belgian art. It brings together the largest private collection focusing on the second half of the twentieth century, with particular emphasis on the period from 1945 to 1975, decades during which Belgian art experienced remarkable growth. Nearly 20,000 works—predominantly on paer—are preserved across more than 4,000 square meters in Antwerp and several other locations.
Supported by a team of specialized professionals, the MVC is devoted to the study, conservation, dissemination, and promotion of the artists who shaped the Belgian art scene during this pivotal period. Situated at the crossroads of historical reassessment and contemporary relevance, the MVC strives to reposition these creators at the heart of the narrative of European modernity. Here, the history of post-war Belgian art is written in the present.
Faithful to the founding vision of its creator – as a custodian of memory and a discoverer and rediscoverer of talent—the MVC has established itself as a key private actor in the dialogue between historical heritage and contemporary creation. Its sustained commitment to promoting Belgian modernity on the international stage makes it an indispensable partner for collectors, institutions, and art enthusiasts worldwide.
